If you’re reading this, then you’re likely sitting in Church Brew Works wondering what the heck that sign above the altar says. It’s part of a letter from Rabbi Paul to the people of faith in ancient Turkey. His letter eventually became a book in the New Covenant.
It’s surprising that the brewery left this bit of scripture. It’s even more surprising that much of the staff knows it by heart!
Ask one of the waiters or waitresses what it says. Here is the translation:
I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (Galatians 2:20 b)
That verse appears in a section where Paul explains that man cannot be reconciled to God by simply being a good person. Even Isaiah the prophet says that all our righteous deeds are like menstrual rags. Yuck! And John the apostle tells us that reconciliation to God is only through faith in Messiah Yeshua a.k.a. Christ Jesus.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
God loves you and wants you to love Him back. He wants to spend eternity with you in Heaven.
What exactly is “eternal life?” Yeshua defines it in John 17:3.
This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Messiah Yeshua whom You have sent.
God wants you to know Him … not just know facts about Him … but know Him!
If you turn away from the wickedness in your own heart and love God, then you get to live forever in paradise. Awesome! I’ll see you there.
If you scoff at the idea of God and deny His existence, then you’ll die forever in anguish and torment with no hope of escape. Bummer.
Enjoy your beer!
